Job Description
Department: Network Information Services
Job Title: Systems Administrator
Education Level: College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or three years equivalent work experience
Certification/Licensure: Certifications preferred but not required
Knowledge & Experience:
● Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and UNIX/Linux desktop and servers
● Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and networks, database, and directories
● Working technical knowledge of coding using various shell and scripting tools
● Familiarity with network protocols including Ethernet and TCP/IP and host security firewalls
● Good technical knowledge of current server hardware and standards, including RAID, SCSI, network attached storage, and Ethernet
● Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience
● Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
● Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
Essential Functions of Position:
The System Administrator’s role is to design, install, configure, administer, tune, and optimize systems servers and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various applications supported.
1. Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers
2. Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of systems utilizing industry best practices and organization standards to meet corporate objectives to meet business demands
3. Preform and review security audits and scans regularly and implement necessary changes
4. Implement automation tools and/or scripts to perform repetitive tasks and standardize processes.
5. Actively collaborate while troubleshooting cross-platform, hardware, client software or other integration solutions.
6. Deploy and administer mobile device management solutions and software.
7. Implement and test system backups and recovery plans according to organizational standards and maintain documentation
8. Analyze system, server, and application, performance and provide statistics and reports as requested.
9. Support application development teams throughout project life cycles
10. Establish system standards and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security
11. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software and hardware procurement and development efforts
12. Recommend, plan, schedule, and perform hardware and software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations
13. Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services

14. Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use
15. Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
16. Adhere to regular and dependable attendance
17. Other duties as assigned
Work Conditions
● 40-hour on-site work week with on-call availability for up to 14 days per month
● Occasional weekly travel required
