What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is looking for an Entry to Staff Level Engineer in our Des Moines, Iowa office to perform various activities in the field and office related to solid waste and environmental services. You will be a quick learner and self-motivated, will be eager to learn, will embrace teamwork, and will have the desire to grow professionally. Your engineering background could be construction, civil, or environmental.
How you can make an impact
- A mixture of office and field work expected
- Record accurate and detailed data during field work, which could include but not limited to:
- Soil characteristics
- Lithology
- Groundwater or surface water data
- Photographs
- Daily construction observations on various landfill and related construction sites
- Prepare grading plan designs, stormwater management design and calculations, water balance models, volume calculations and other calculations.
- Prepare engineering reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches and/or figures.
- Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations to ensure compliance with construction documents.
- Uses AutoCAD for basic design plans/ figures while developing skillset for full design plans/figures.
- Prepare permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation as requested.
- Prepare short form site specific health and safety plans as requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science degree in Civil or Construction Engineering required.
- Minimum of 3 months of relevant environmental and/or engineering internship, work and/or research experience required.
- EIT preferred
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record required.

Pay range for this position is $48K to $55K/year depending on experience. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
