Position Summary
Maintains, services, calibrates, adjusts, repairs, and tests general and specialized medical equipment for the Health System. Provides and documents complex repairs and calibration services on a broad range of patient care and support equipment. Must have a strong working knowledge of all aspects of medical equipment management including standards and regulations relating to The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory agencies. Must be able to interact with other department employees, clinical staff including management, nurses and physicians, ancillary staff and outside vendors.
Responsibilities
1. Performs highly skilled work of high difficulty in the inspection, preventative maintenance, repair and safety testing of intermediate imaging equipment, such as Digital Radiography units, basic CT, CT Sim, basic oncology and vascular/specials systems. Will be available to assist other technicians and perform level 1 duties when requested. (Approx 60% of role focus)
2. Interacts daily with Health System department managers, equipment users, physicians and administrative staff concerning service and usage issues and effectively handles all service emergencies. This may include providing instruction as to the safe and proper use of medical equipment or providing clinical support to all patient care areas with knowledge to supply alternative equipment solutions in the case of emergencies. (Approx 15% of role focus)
3. Provides technical support and assistance to Healthcare Engineering Specialists and Technicians in daily operations. Responsible for maintenance and repairs of medical equipment for all Health System departments and assigned facilities. (Approx 10% of role focus)
4. Selects and requisitions needed parts, communicating with vendor representatives and pertinent in-house departments. Coordinates needed repairs with outside vendors and is able to triage an equipment failure situation and make a determination upon which service strategy is most effective for safety, clinical utility and productivity. (Approx 5% or role focus)
5. Carries out special assignments such as follow-up on equipment hazard reports or circulate notices to affected departments. Provides coverage and support for HES III or HET Lead during their absence. (Approx 5% or role focus)
6. Performs other related duties as may be requested or assigned. (Approx 5% or role focus)
Pay:
- This is a non-exempt role and pay is commensurate with experience
- Mon-Fri standard hours; additional time may be offered outside of normal hours as necessitated by patient care support needs
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or related field, or an equivalent training program and 20 years of experience is required
- Five years of related experience in a full service biomedical section/department or company is required
- Multi-modality and multi-vendor experience is required
Optional/Preferred:
· Bachelor degree in any related field is preferred
· Seven years of related experience is preferred
· ICC Certification for radiology equipment (CRES) preferred
