The CREST (Combined Radiation Environments for Survivability Testing) Project’s Reactor Facility Development department is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. CREST is a proposed project to recapitalize the Annular Core Research Reactor Facility and include a short pulse electron beam accelerator to fill a mission gap for research, development, and qualification activities. The CREST complex will be sited at Tech Area V (TA-V) at Sandia’s Albuquerque, NM location. You will provide expertise and oversight for the design and development of a future CREST nuclear facility, ensuring that interfaces and other requirements are met for operations of the Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR) and a new electron accelerator which will be going into the facility. Sandia has a long history of designing, building, and operating major pulsed power machines and experimental research reactors. Over the next decade we will be busy designing the CREST facility to expand our support for the U.S. Department of Energy’s national security mission.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Collaborate with the CREST system engineering team through supporting conceptual design efforts associated with the facility.
- Collaborate with CREST reactor and accelerator design teams to ensure proper interface requirements between the reactor and the accelerator are established and maintained and that joint operational aspects of the two are fully considered within the facility.
- Refine technical and functional requirements derived for the designs.
- Collaborate with other engineers, scientists or designers who are modeling/calculating estimated dose and dose rates that may be expected within CREST’s conceptual layout design from reactor/accelerator-only operations as well as combined operations.
- Work with the ACRR fuel stewardship team as they develop processes and facility requirements for nuclear fuel recladding.
Join our team and achieve your goals while making a difference!
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
