Description:SUMMARY:
The Equipment Design Engineer is primarily responsible for collaborating with our engineering team to create technical drafts of equipment using various software applications. This position will report to the Director of Engineering / R&D.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Liaising with engineers to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
- Mechanical design of fixtures and lifting equipment.
- Using various software applications to create technical drafts; primarily using SolidWorks.
- Calculating dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
- Sourcing materials and metal working systems.
- Describing production methods step-by-step (including equipment and software types to be used).
- Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
- Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
- Work with PE for certification of lifting equipment.
- Negotiating with customers / vendors.
- Cost estimating for materials and supplies.
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
Requirements:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS / COMPETENCIES:
To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should be able to demonstrate and provide the following:
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience within the wind industry or other related fields preferred.
- At least 3 years of active experience in SolidWorks.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / structural / composites engineering.
- Additional certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
- Ability to utilize knowledge and experience to make key decisions that are in the best interest of the customer and the company.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong initiative and drive for high achievement and continuous improvement.
- Valid Driver’s License.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates in an office and field environment.
Specific physical requirements include:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
- Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.
- Potential of up to 20% travel (domestic and international).
