We have a great opportunity for you to join our Downstream business at the Commerce City refinery! Our refinery is the only petroleum refinery in Colorado and the largest in the Rocky Mountain region, processing 100,000 barrels of oil per day. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support for the refinery process units as a member of a multi-functional team to promote a safe and environmentally sound facility operation.
As a senior team member you will provide technical leadership during early stages of project development and process designs for refinery capital projects and collaborate with cross functional team members, capital project teams and senior leadership for project success.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience in oil processing and capital projects
Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering
Understanding/knowledge of technical standards and codes
Ability to assess outcomes of proposed technical changes and address several technical issues simultaneously
Strong interpersonal and communications skills to engage with cross disciplinary team deal with technical staff in a positive and constructive manner
Ability to apply a continuous improvement mindset and ability to learn
Comfortable working in the refinery, which includes climbing ladders and working at heights
Dedication to employee health and safety and the environment
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Responsibilities:
Lead an integrated team through problem statement validation and solution identification/selection to provide the refinery with solid solutions that encompass personal safety, environmental performance, PSM, Reliability, and Operability
Collaborate/interface with cross functional team members in operations, production control, environmental, project execution (etc.) to fully understand the problem statement and feasibility of potential solutions
Develop the initial project cash flow, contracting strategy, and details required for front end project estimating, planning and scheduling
Assemble required deliverables and Decision Support Packages to present to senior refinery leadership for path forward alignment
Flag potential risk to development/execution to the capital projects team
Ensure process designs comply with Suncor project processes and procedures, engineering standards, and industry best practices
Perform/review engineering calculations during all project phases including feasibility, identification and evaluation of alternatives, conceptual design, front end design, detailed engineering, construction, and start-up
Carry out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed testing, analysis, design or computation methods
Support process hazard analysis (PHA) and/or layers of protection analysis (LOPA) during design development
Develop process simulations (HYSYS) to evaluate or validate process design
Conduct and participate in field walkdowns for design verification
Demonstrate a safety mindset both on and off the job
Location and other key details:
Position is based at the Commerce City Refinery (located at 5455 Brighton Blvd) and primarily involves supporting that site
Must be comfortable working in petroleum processing facilities
Relocation support will be provided
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
A Hybrid Work Model is available allowing occasional working from home

Salary and Compensation Details:
$130,000 - $180,000 annual salary and an annual incentive (bonus) program
