POSITION DESCRIPTION
Maurer-Stutz is seeking a licensed/registered professional engineer with a minimum of four (4) years of professional design experience
to continue growth of our existing agricultural services team. Maurer-Stutz currently maintains offices in Illinois and Indiana. The
position entails consulting with farmers and agribusinesses with a particular emphasis on working with livestock and poultry producers
and supporting projects in our other groups including Civil/site, Water/Wastewater, etc. and in Conservation Engineering projects.
The ideal applicant is licensed (or registered) as a professional engineer. Experience in livestock production is a plus. Primary activities
include design of livestock waste systems, site/grading design, storm water and erosion control design, assistance with permitting,
development of comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMP’s) including conceptual planning for addressing resource concerns
at existing facilities and assisting project managers.
EXAMPLES OF RECENT AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS:
Development of construction plans and specifications for 1,430,000 bird expansion for a layer and pullet facility in Texas.
Project included coordinating engineering surveys and geological investigation, developing grading and stormwater
construction plans, and coordinating local and state permitting.
Development of construction plans and specifications for 6000 head new sow farm in Iowa. Project included engineering
surveys and coordinating the geological investigation, developing grading and stormwater construction plans, and
coordinating local and state permitting. Additionally, we provided periodic construction observation which included rebar
placement observation, material submittal approval, and concrete testing.
Involved in preparing a watershed plan for water control structures in Oklahoma. The watershed plan included engineering
survey, environmental and cultural resources assessment, geotechnical investigation, hydrology and hydraulic calculations,
and alternatives analysis.
AGRICULTURAL SERVICES ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write Manure/Nutrient Management and/or Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMPs).
Planning Phase Services such as facility inventories/surveys, evaluation of existing facilities/resource concerns, program of
requirements, conceptual planning/design, quantities, opinion of probable construction costs and site/soils investigation.
Design livestock facilities, manure systems and sites including use of AutoCAD/Civil3D.
Develop project construction plans and specifications.
Assistance with permitting new and expanding livestock facilities, agrichemical handling/storage facilities and compliance with
permit requirement/regulations.
Construction Phase Services including construction checks/observation, developing record drawings, materials testing, etc. to
help assure general conformance with project plans and specifications.
Project/Client Management or assisting client managers and project managers.
BASE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or related from an ABET Accredited College or University with
the desire to learn.
Working knowledge and familiarity with livestock/poultry operations including dairy, beef, swine, layers, turkeys, etc. and
midwestern US crop production.
Technical familiarity with agricultural and livestock production practices and systems.
Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills with strong time management and organizational skills.
Competent use of Microsoft Office products.
Experience with AutoCAD or drafting software.
