Eaton’s AER FED Fluid Electrical Distribution division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Jackson, MI facility.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $88499.97 - $129799.96 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

This Lead Engineer position shall lead innovation and/or new product development projects following a phase gated development approach (PreLaunch/ProLaunch) for the Aerospace market. The role requires the ability to apply advanced mechanical engineering principles and basic electrical engineering principles enabling clean sheet design of mechanical and/or mechatronic products. This role requires innovation of existing products or clean sheet design using conventional and evolving additive manufacturing processes to develop products in alignment with the electrification market trends for hydraulic, fuel, and coolant systems. This role will also support the development of bill of materials and non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost estimates for new project bids and proposals.

Execute internal and customer technical deliverables on high complexity projects within the PRE/PROLaunch development process through the use of the Aerospace Common Engineering Standards.

Drive the design and develop new products or re-design current products to meet customer requirements via cross functional collaboration with customers and an internal team including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management as well as product or process subject matter experts.

Identify project technical and schedule risks, prioritize based on quantified impact, and execute mitigation plans.

Develop project technical execution plans to meet customer requirements and quote the labor, material, and other direct costs (MODC) required to execute the development and qualification programs, addressing technical risks prior to qualification.
- Apply statistical and analytical tools towards effective problem-solving and completion of project activities.

Lead structured problem solving efforts and/ or failure analysis to solve issues in a timely manner.

Conduct internal, supplier, customer design reviews.

Lead improvement efforts at local or cross functional level.

Support product engineering function goals such as the review of engineering standards, engineering process improvements, and 5s.

Decompose system level requirements to assembly component level critical to quality (CTQ) requirements.

Develop constructive relationships with cross functional internal teams and customers to efficiently execute programs according to agreed upon schedules.

Develop qualification procedures defining instrumentation strategies and test setup detail in conjunction with the test engineering. Must be fully knowledgeable about sampling rates, noise sources, grounding, and filtering.
Required/Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution

Minimum of five (5) years of Product Design and Development experience in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to read and understand Drawings, Specifications, and Requirements

Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Proficiency in CAD (CATIA V5 preferred)

Understanding of design evaluation techniques such as reliability analysis, statistical tolerance stack up, Failure Mode and Effect analysis (FMEA), etc.

Proficiency in Product Data Management systems for document control and workflow management (ENOVIA is a plus)

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite tools

Ability to manage multiple priorities and switch focus efficiently

Ability to compose clear and concise technical communication

The ideal candidate would have 8+ years’ experience in Aerospace component design and development.
