Position Objective: To develop, review, and approve necessary work plans and deliverables across a variety of projects. To work as both a leader and a team player in promoting a culture of success through peer/employee collaboration and recognition.
Company Environment: R Baker & Son is a 4th generation, 87 year old family-owned company whose primary business is commercial demolition and rigging. They are headquartered in Marlboro, NJ, and work across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. R Baker employs a unionized workforce, and the project portfolio is predominantly made up of large commercial projects, including shopping malls, refineries and pharmaceutical plants. The company continues to grow and expand.
Job Environment: The position will be primarily based in Marlboro, NJ. The position reports directly to the company owners. There will be daily interaction with company senior management and project managers. The position will also require time in the field at customer meetings and on project sites, with project managers and their teams, engineers, and other internal and external parties involved in the projects. Some travel will be required as dictated by project locations, so flexibility to travel at short notice is required. The job is a full time, year-round position.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create drawings and specifications, perform calculations, review the work of other engineers, write reports and evaluations, and observe construction sites.
- Provide leadership to ensure safe work practices at all times while promoting a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.
- Stay abreast of trends and developments such as new equipment, materials, technology, and methods and procedures developing in the construction industry.
- Display the ability to effectively manage issue resolution, and clear roadblocks.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients and provide adjustments as necessary to comply with client needs within contractual obligations.
- Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards, done in accordance with good engineering practice, meet or exceed quality standards, and are compliant with all legal and environmental codes.
- Promote positive employee relations and treats all customers and colleagues with dignity and respect.
- Good leader and team player, who is an open, honest and consistent communicator, striving to provide timely information for the good of the organization.
Education: Degree in structural engineering. A masters degree is a plus.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 15 years of structural engineering-related experience, demolition experience a plus.
