POSITION SUMMARY
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for the position of a Process Systems Engineer in the Green Hydrogen Product Line at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, PA, United States.
Air Products is a world leader in hydrogen generation and developers of one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects. We have enjoyed a long and successful history developing and implementing technologies for complex gas synthesis, separation, purification and liquefaction using a variety of techniques, including electrolysis, steam methane reforming, gasification, autothermal reforming, ammonia synthesis, methanol generation, CO2 capture, hydrocarbon cryogenic distillation, hydrogen and helium liquefiers, etc. The Process Systems Engineers in the Green Hydrogen Product Line provide engineering and commissioning support for new green hydrogen generation opportunities and products. The backbone of the role starts with development and stewardship of P&ID's, leading operability reviews for new opportunities, development of plant operational logic, participation in hazard reviews and Participation in 3D model reviews. The process systems engineer is a key member of a project team and is responsible for driving the work process with a multi-disciplined project team.
The Process Systems Engineer is an experienced individual contributor role. The successful candidate needs to have strong engineering fundamentals. The successful candidate will be comfortable with or have strong previous background in P&ID development, with a good understanding of process engineering, controls systems, operations, and process safety as well. They should be conscientious, detail-oriented, and effective problem solvers.
As a Principal Process Systems Engineer, you will:

Develop and manage project P&ID’s, Shutdown Tables, and critical safety systems for bids, projects, and products

Participate in development of plant operational logic

Support front end bid development and scope definition

Participate in PFD reviews

Lead P&ID review meetings (Operability, Hazard Reviews, etc.) and manage the resolution of technical issues raised by the project team

Participate in hazard reviews and other safety evaluations (SIL, Fault Tree Analysis, etc.)

Drive the work process within a multi-disciplined project team to produce a project specific P&ID ensuring that plant reliability, operability and maintenance capabilities are considered

Ensure that P&IDs are produced in accordance with company standards/procedures and any customer specific requirements

Coordinate and lead the resolution of functional issues involving plant reliability, operability, and maintenance.

Develop P&ID execution strategy and engineering hours estimate for bids

Participate in 3D model reviews

Participate in plot plan development activities

Manage interfaces and tie ins with customer and other plants within the facilities

Opportunity to participate in field commissioning activities

Opportunity to participate in DCS staging and field validation

Expected travel (domestic and international) up to 20% of the time.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering

A minimum of 5 years’ work experience for an industrial gas company or an EPC firm, with a strong focus on P&ID development during feasibility studies, conceptual design, and detail design

Demonstrated experience in new plant engineering or plant process engineering with a focus on plant operations and start-ups

Demonstrated ability to make balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs and operating costs

Previous experience with green hydrogen production facilities is a plus

A balanced multi-discipline understanding in Process Engineering, DCS/PLC Controls, Process Safety, and equipment/plant design is a plus

Use of tools such as Bluebeam, Smart Plant PID, Smart Plant 3D Review, and Adobe is a strong plus.
